90´s - the last decade of nostalgia

Having grown up in the 80´s and the 90´s, I´ve had my fair share of synthpop, house and eurodance.  To me, those are the best music genres. To be without Haddaway, 2 unlimited, DJ Bobo....well that could not be imagined.

For a couple of years, 90´s music like eurodance has been once again very popular as it was in the beginning of the 90´s.   So what is so appealing in this fairly simple dancepop?

Well, in the first half of the century there was a depression (imagine a time when there wasnt  ;-)    )   and people wanted to dance the night away and forget about their troubles.  Mutating out of italodisco and house, this melodic genre took its roots in the youth of the nineties.

Eurodance has sheer joy that cannot be replicated in any other genre. It´s simple, melodic, catchy, all the ingredients of a hit. It has no deeper meaning, it is what it is. Easy, enjoyable dancemusic. It doesnt pretend to be something it isnt, like many dance acts today.

Let´s break it down to the bare basslines.  Most of all, THEY ARE THERE.   Nowadays EDM has no good basslines, just whoomp, whoomp, whoomp. Eurodance has a structure of song, a real written song. Theres soul to it.

Keeping it simple is what eurodance is all about. No technical gimmicks. Nice melodies and easy refrains.

Now music world is trying to stuff noughties. "nostalgia" down our throats the ...(beginning of the century)...[sigh]. Really, barely 10 years has gone past, and now I´m supposed to be "ooh, ahh" about some half-baked dance acts, I´m glad I´ve forgotten...

Well, good luck with that.
