Susumu Yokota: Skintone collection -review

Youtube can open really fascinating pathways to interesting music, as in this case. I discovered this artist wandering around in the Tube, looking for ambient. And it really can´t get more atmospheric than this ;-)

Japanese Susumu has a long career in electronic music and its interesting that he has done also house music.  That gives a totally different spin on his ambient music. Skintone collection is a collection of this deeper side.

Yokota drops a few hints of Japanese heritage but it never gets too ethnic for my taste. Although this a sluggish collection you never get tired because Susumu has reinvented himself in almost every song. The beats are absent but the sad mood is definitely audible here. It almost feels like you are listening poetry about nature.

This collection is for those who want their music with depth and who dont mind spending an hour with soothing electronica.
