TV OFF - interview

1. Who are the members of TV OFF?

Hi! We're Sara and Markku. TV OFF has always been the two of us. At the moment however, you can catch us doing our live performances with a five member live band.

2. Which artists are the biggest influences in your music?

A whole lot of artists
smile We love to listen to music on a really wide scale, you'd be surprised to hear what we listen to! Guess we're influenced musically by a lot of artists and records we listened to for example when doing our latest album. To name a few lets say Depeche Mode, Muse and Mosca.

3. The new album A Writing on the wall is a bit different than the previous Music machine? Why is that?

When we are in the process of making an album, we never think about what the end result will be. We just keep making songs and melodies that best represent that day, the mood that we are in at the present. Music and creativity is about the present. It is a mysterious journey that you find ourself on. If you always knew what tomorrow would be like, what would the fun be in that.

4. Are you planning to make a career outside Finland?

We're one step ahead of you!
smile Yes indeed. We've already done a lot of gigs outside Finland, the biggest being a support tour in the Baltic countries and Belarus last November supporting 30 Seconds To Mars. We will never forget our show in Tokyo and we hope to be back there soon, Tokyo is crazy creative!

5. What do you think is the most common reaction in Finnish people when it comes to dance music?

Well that really depends on the person not the nationality. Our guess would be thought, that most people- especially in our climate need something to get their bodies warm.

6. What do you think about electronic music being everywhere, on charts, used on commercials etc? Is is a good thing that pop stars are jumping on the EDM bandwagon?

We come from a background where we've witnessed electronic music in general becoming mainstream. It wasn't the case that many years ago that you could hear house for example as background music in cafés in Finland. It was really fun and creative time when electronic music was completely underground, there truly was a movement around it - you could feel belonging to something that was bigger than just the music. That was a long time ago though and mostly it's great of course that nowadays you can hear electronic music everywhere. It's not the endpoint however, pop will move from the current EDM standard. Just check out the Korean pop scene and how they re-use every possible

genre to make pop music.

7. If you had the chance to do a song with any artist, who would it be?

Iik!!! To name just one? Bob Dylan
smile:-)
