Giuseppe Ottaviani: Magenta -review

Cute Italian trance dj, Giuseppe Ottaviani, has released his second album, Magenta. Previous album Go! (2009) was a celebration of uplifting and banging trance so expectations were high with this new release.

I LOVE uplifting trance and Im not a big fan of trance artists who turn their backs on the authentic sound.  But listening song after song meaningless melodies and generic "heard-it-all-before" isnt my cup of tea either. Giuseppe is taking the easy way out with Magenta.

Album starts with a really fascinating song, Rush, which is a laidback introduction with good vocals sung by Lo-Fi Sugar. Sadly the album goes downhill after the first song. You cant even tell the songs apart, so similar they are to each other. If you had to pick out some other highlights, I would choose Brilliant people with Aly & Fila, which sounds like any song from Paul Van Dyks répertoire.

Magenta isnt meant for listening at home, but for dancing at big clubs and festivals, where people dont care about the music, just making appearances and getting drunk. After Markus Schulzs horrible Scream from last year, Magenta is probably one of the most bland and uninspired trance albums I´ve heard.

I give 1 / 5 stars.
