Alexandra Burke: Heartbreak on hold -review

At first I have to say that the cd cover of Alexandras new album is astonishing: the colors, the diva pose, design, everything spells out: "THIS IS A DANCE ALBUM!"

Alexandra has jumped on the band wagon of dancemusic although there were a couple of dance oriented songs on the first album too. But Heartbreak on hold goes a bit farther than the first album. It gives us a more clubbier approach employing such legendary producers as Erick Morillo and Michael Woods.

The first single Elephant is a song I really can´t understand. It has pathetic refrain, which is a big no-no on the pop market. But the good side is that it has a great clubby feel thanks to Erick Morillo and the trancy melody delivers a great atmosphere. Maybe should have included a dub version of this?

The standouts are Fire (with the biggest chorus of the album), Daylight robbery (opens with a trance feel and then turns into something else) and Oh la la (tekhouse!!!). Rest of the album is above average dancepop, not enough to make this the best album of the year, but good enough to get ahead of Kylie, Madonna and other mainstream artists.  I give this
                            3/5
P.S. It´s a bloody disgrace that the deluxe version of this is only on mp3!!!
