Verona -interview

Here´s an interview of Czech duo, VERONA:

1. Who is Verona? Names and ages?
Verona is the music project based in Czech Republic - Prague. We are two of us - Markéta Jakšlová (27)- singer, composer and Peter Fider (39) - producer, composer.

2. How would you describe your music? And how it has changed over the years?
When we started in 2002, almost all of our songs were dance tracks, but last few years we are more like dance/pop project. As time passed we started to use elements from other musical styles and began to experiment more.

3. What is your favorite genre of music? And why is that? And do you have genres you dont like?
Markéta: The music for me is about feelings, so I really don't care which music style is the song. When I like the melody, atmosphere and a voice of the singer I just like it and don't care if is it pop, dance, jazz or something else. But in my spare time I prefer soul, jazz and pop music.
Peter: My favorite music style is dance music of course But I also like the other music styles but just the music with melody and emotion.

4. Who are your favorite artists?
Markéta: It's hard to say...my favorite singers are for example: Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill. I like a band U2, Kosheen, Swedish house mafia, Dj Fresh or from older artists I could mention Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles.
Peter: My favorite artist are for example : ATB, Dash Berlin, Lizz Wright, Keane.

5. Do you know any Finnish electronic music artists?
No I'm really sorry.

6. You have released a couple of songs in English. Is their going to be an album made for international markets?
Yes, we released couple of songs in English, so in the future we would like to complete an album for foreign countries.

7. What are your opinions about todays music industry? Going bad or getting better?
The music industry is still in a process. To be honest I don't know if is going worse or getting better than before?
For example 10 years before was really hard to make an advertisement and now with the internet and with the social networks it is much more easier for us. But on the other hand sales of CD's are very low nowadays and musicians and singers have no money from that, because everybody's downloading the music.
So you see, something is easier and something is worse - this is the development of music industry.

8. Do you gig outside Czech Republic?
Yes we do. We've had a lot of performances abroad. In Poland, Slovakia, in Bulgaria and in US as well. We also did a tour in China 2 years ago. We love performing in foreign countries, because it is very interesting for us - new places, different audiences, culture and so on...

9. What are your future plans? New album?
Yes, exactly. We just put out our new single " Fallin' in love" - it is a dance track. And next year we're going to work on our new CD, which we would like to release in November 2013.

Thanks for the interview :-)
